Sorry mate but you're talking total bollocks

I was there at the first ever free concert in Hyde Park in 1968, you clearly weren't

The event was not publicised beforehand & most people assumed it wasn't going to happen

200 people could even be an exaggeration as there were probably less. Anyone could have walked forward & touched the stage throughout the concert. It finished earlier than expected as the authorities decided to cut the power

Perhaps you're thinking of their second free concert at Hyde Park with Daddy Long Legs & Sam Apple Pie, which I also went to

I left early as it was absolutely packed & the acoustics were hopeless

I think you must be getting confused in your dotage. The Hyde Park free concert of '68 had thousands there, not a couple of hundred.

By the way, when people on here start slagging off the Beatles (Jack Flash) accusing them of churning out nauseating love songs (99.9% of songrwriters would give their right arm to churn out such dross) then they simply mark themselves as ignorant cunts who think they have some kind of superior musical taste, when in fact it's quite the reverse.
You're probably the sort of herbert that likes Bjork.

I would have loved to have been old enough to see the Space Ritual tour.
The best live album bar none

Bungo! ~ Apologies this tablet's predictive text is a real pain

(Also people listening to the naff mainstream chart music of the day led by the Beatles were generally referred to as 'turds' as opposed to 'hip'!)

I do see your point regarding people who were too young or unlucky enough to miss out on the real thing at the time & it is indeed the mark of a great band that tribute bands form to try to revive the memories of that long lost era

However, for me it's a bit like recreating the highlights of a great football match only using different players & knowing the final score & all the major incidents in the game!

I can remember going to the first free concert in Hyde Park circa 1968 to see Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Jethro Full , DJ John Peel. I would guess there were only about 200 people there!

I think the showing was so low because a lot of their fans thought that they wouldn't show up (A few weeks earlier they failed to turn up at Newport Jazz Festival & an angry mob burnt all the deckchairs) Fortunately, I missed that one!

I even saw Pink Floyd play at The Fishmongers Arms (Wood Green)!

I saw them at various venues on their UK tour (circa 1968/69) starting at the Festival Hall & ending at the Albert Hall

I have to admit I miss a lot of the great progressive groups of that era like The Nice, Hawkwind etc

Interstellar overdrive. Good track for testing your speakers for stereo sound.

I suppose a major draw for tribute bands or bands of this vintage only featuring one 'original' member, is that a lot of people were too young to see the originals amd this is the closest they'll get.

I often think this is the mark of a great band/great music when there is an ongoing demand even after the original people have stopped playing.

Leonard Hatred ~

Back in the day when underground music was taking off (later to become progressive music) the people who liked it were called hip

People that liked most of the mainstream music & were unable to see beyond the nauseating love songs churned out by the likes of the Beatles etc were known as there

Everyone to their own but you'd have to be pretty simple to class the iconic sounds of 'Arnold Layne' & 'See Emily Play's as 'arse gravy' never mind 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn'

I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live hundreds of times before & after She Barratt & it was always a great experience but it's all in the long distant past now. I see little point in tribute bands & the like going over the same old ground

The whole point of progressive music was exploring new stuff

Pink Floyd ended after 'The Wall' as far as I'm concerned

There's been precious little innovative music over the last 30 years

I've got a cloak
It's a bit of a joke

A bit like the track... definitely in the "so bad it's good" category.

Unlike most of the rest of Floyd's stuff, which is good in a more straightforward way.

If Pratt and Mason are involved, is it really a tribute band?

I'm all over this. The era of floyd that got me into them (I wasnt born until the 70s mind) and still my favourite period.

Seen clips of Gary Kemp in the band this week, he looks the business, much to my shock,

roundhouse and maybe a little trip over the channel for another date
